Chapter 89
The next day, Mu Cai went to his own company.
Although he, as the boss, had been absent from work for almost a month, he had entirely delegated the remaining tasks to the subordinates dispatched by his brother. There was no pressing need for him to pay constant attention. However, while reviewing the script yesterday, he discovered that according to the general plot, the original owner had taken various measures to attempt to financially support and foster the protagonist, the shou...
This included trying to get the protagonist to intern at his own company— being close would make it easier to win favor. Most importantly, given the original owner's personality, whenever he took a fancy to someone, he would first investigate the other party's background to see if it was someone he could get involved with.
Usually, the original owner would give these investigation jobs to the men his brother dispatched. The subordinate was quiet and reliable and never talked more than necessary in front of his brother.
Therefore, Mu Cai had to go to the company today to look for help.
Even though there was a slight hiccup at the start of the plot, this minor mistake didn't have a large impact. He could still proceed according to the original plot. While driving and struggling through the morning rush, Mu Cai silently consoled himself. Although Li Yu had added him on WeChat, Li Yu did not actively engage him in conversation, not even responding to his casual greetings.
This indicated that Li Yu still had a firm attitude.
Finally, Mu Cai drove his car to the building where his company was located. After parking the car, he walked into the building and took the elevator directly to the floor where his company was. This company, given to him by his elder brother in order to prevent him from idling and making trouble, didn't have its own building. Instead, they bought two floors of office space in a CBD building.
It was peak hour now, with countless people rushing into the building from the main entrance. A crowd had gathered in front of the elevator. The once spacious lobby now seemed half its size due to the hustle and bustle. The confined space was filled with a mixture of fragrances—from buns, soymilk, and pastries. People seemed tired, being near the end of the year. While students enjoyed their break, they still had to get through the last busy days before the year-end.
Some people were having their breakfast, others were impatiently looking at the elevator floor indicator, and some were halfheartedly going through their phones. It was silent and tense — too quiet for so many people.
That's until a man walked into the lobby.
Apparently not wanting to jostle through the crowd, he had come in a step behind the previous lot. He pushed open the revolving door. His white Chelsea boots hit the ground, and his light grey overcoat revealed a pale blue sweater.
His light attire stood out in the winter lobby, with most people dressed in dark colors. Yet it was his appearance that was even more striking.
His skin was fair, with a slightly upturned nose, and soft black hair falling just around his slightly red ears due to the cold. His eyes shone bright as the stars in the night sky, and the lower half of his face was tucked into a camel-colored scarf wrapped around his neck. A slender hand emerged from his coat pocket, pulling down the scarf a bit, revealing beautifully shaped and rosy lips.
Just then, the elevator dinged—sound that was sharp and piercing in the silent lobby. The elevator people had been expecting finally arrived at the ground floor and opened its doors, ready for its eager guests.
But the crowd waiting before the elevator didn’t move. They just stared at the visitor. With his presence, the morning lobby — which had a slightly dim winter light — seemed to be brightening up.
This man was too good-looking!
Mu Cai was slightly surprised. He couldn't understand why these people, who were so desperate to get into the elevator, were now standing still. He approached the queue with fewer people, and then he heard a gasp resonating through the lobby.
At that moment, a young woman from the queue he approached gasped in surprise and screamed at Mu Cai, "Boss!"
Seeing someone seemingly recognising him, Mu Cai promptly took a step forward, standing in a place closer to the crowd and asked, "Hello, may I know who you are?"
His voice, soft and pleasant, was like the gentle sound of a stream in a valley, washing away the tense atmosphere.
Even his voice was so beautiful!
But then, the young woman suddenly reacted and waved at Mu Cai, "Boss, come over quickly! Let's go, let's go. Don’t be late!"
This utterance seemed to awake people from their dreams. The crowd, which was previously frozen as if by magic, suddenly rushed toward the four lined elevators. Mu Cai, who was preparing to talk to the woman who seemed to recognize him, was standing close to the queue. He was taken by surprise and squeezed toward the elevator in the rush.
He was carried along by the flow of people and continuously felt his body being grazed by the crowd. As a solo violinist in his own world, Mu Cai had been chauffeured to and from school since he was a child; meals were delivered to him. He had never experienced squeeze in an elevator before. Now he felt himself being squeezed with no room to breathe. Surprisingly, he managed to get on the elevator.
What a wonderful experience!
The elevator doors slowly closed in front of those waiting behind, and then it began to ascend.
The young woman who recognized Mu Cai also boarded the elevator. She struggled to look up at him through the crowd around her, her voice full of surprise: "Boss, you really came today!"
Mu Cai: "..."
Mu Cai was a bit embarrassed.
The tone of her surprise suggested that the original owner’s habit of skipping work had deeply influenced people. Being pierced about this point in front of so many people, Mu Cai felt a bit ashamed.
A faint blush spread across his white cheeks, even gathering towards his small earlobe. Coupled with his long eyelashes drooping in front of his eyes, he looked especially adorable.
The gazes around him cast furtively at him, indefinitely sticking to his face.
The young girl looked at Mu Cai's expression and quickly realized her mistake. She hastily changed the subject in a clever manner, "Boss, everything in the company is running smoothly when you are not there. After all, the company's system is already very stable. Whether the boss comes or not doesn't matter. Of course, it would be better if the boss can come more often."
After she said her crafty words, she cautiously looked up and saw Mu Cai's face returned to its natural color. His long eyelashes trembled, and his dark eyes looked at her and chuckled, "Thank you, I'll consider it."
This smile was as beautiful as the blooming flowers in spring, stunningly stunning.
The girl's brain went blank, and she could only hear herself uttering dumbly, "Okay, okay, boss."
However, Mu Cai did not notice her abnormality. He lifted his head, looked at the floor number displayed on the elevator, and revealed a beautiful arc of his chin.
Before he reached his company, the elevator door opened and closed several times. Every time, the people who left seemed reluctant to depart. Mu Cai waited for quite a while before he finally reached the floor of his company.
He got off the elevator with the young girl and did not hear the sighs from the people behind him.
Lin Xingchen was making coffee in the pantry when he faintly heard some commotion from the office outside. He carried his coffee and walked out, only to see a very handsome young man crossing through the aisle and smilingly greeting all the staff present.
The other one's arm was draped in a light grey woolen coat and a camel-colored scarf. Wearing a light blue fitted sweater, his waist slim. He waved his dazzlingly white hand, touched the corners of his handsome red mouth, and walked with his long straight legs. It felt as rejuvenating as feeling a spring breeze wherever he passed.
The long-forgotten, real boss finally graced Galen Technology with his presence today.
Lin Xingchen sipped his coffee and admired this scene with appreciation.
Indeed, a feast for the eyes.
In just a few minutes, all the grievances accumulated from Lin Xingchen's day and night overtime began to dissolve.
Working for such a person, all those tedious tasks don't seem too unbearable.
Mu Cai didn't know that his host body was so welcomed in the company.
In the memories he acquired from the original person, the faces of these company employees were all quite vague to him. He could hardly recognize any. But they were all very enthusiastic about him. As soon as Mu Cai walked in the door, the young girl tried her best to shout.
All eyes were instantly turned to him.
Following that, surprise was revealed in all these sets of eyes.
Mu Cai felt as if his face was about to stiffen from smiling, finally got out of the corridor. He turned his head and saw a man wearing a shirt and a loosened tie standing at the door of the pantry, holding coffee.
Seeing Lin Xingchen, the handsome figure across the room, Mu Cai's bright eyes lit up with delight: "Brother Chen!"
The hand which Lin Xingchen was using to hold the coffee paused for a moment.
Over the years, he has been called Brother Chen, and he discovered the charm of this address for the first time.
It was almost tempting to press down on the speaker and ask him to call again in accordance to his liking.
Mu Cai did not notice Lin Xingchen's pause but walked straight towards him. Lin Xingchen was the subordinate his elder brother assigned to him, always taking care of the company for him and occasionally helping him with some tasks. The other party was composed, meticulous in his work, never revealing his emotions, and maintained a respectful distance to the host body, concealing his likes and dislikes.
However, according to the original script, Lin Xingchen harbored no small amount of resentment towards the original person.
After all, no one likes the culprit behind their overtime schedule.
With this thought in mind, Mu Cai was inevitably a little guilty. When he remembered the purpose of his trip here, his smile was careful: "Good morning, Brother Chen."
Lin Xingchen raised an eyebrow: "Good morning, Boss."
Mu Cai's long eyelashes quivered as he looked at the coffee in Lin Xingchen's hand. With a voice tinged with guilt, he said: "Brother Chen, do you drink coffee in the morning? Is the workload too strenuous? If you're too tired, you should take a break. There is no need for you to work so hard. After all, you are the one in charge of the company..."
The reason Lin Xingchen worked so hard was to work for him. Although his brother was the one paying the salary, half of the earnings from the projects Lin Xingchen led went into his pocket.
Even if the original person only visited every few days instead of skipping work for several months, Mu Cai would not feel so guilty. The more he spoke, the more hypocritical he felt, and he could not help but blush slightly.
The young master's black hair hung down softly, his lips pursed, his cheeks slightly red, forming a striking contrast with his slender white neck.
He looked very appealing.
After enjoying the view, Lin Xingchen finally interrupted: "So, what's the favor this time, second young master?"
Mu Cai finally breathed a sigh of relief when Lin Xingchen allowed him to speak, and said with a smile, "Brother Chen, can you help me investigate someone?"
As his assistant, Lin Xingchen had done such tasks many times before. However, before he would not ask any questions and just get the job done.
But today, for some unknown reason, Lin Xingchen asked an extra question, "Is this the new person you're interested in?"
Mu Cai was aware of the original's promiscuous deeds, so he could only acknowledge truthfully, "Yes."
He admitted it so readily.
When Lin Xingchen thought of this, his previously cheerful mood worsened. He picked up his coffee mug and walked towards his office, asking at the same time, "What's his name?"
Following Lin Xingchen, Mu Cai answered, "Li Yu, a freshman at S University."
Lin Xingchen paused, he couldn't help but ask, "A freshman? Has he come of age?"
Mu Cai hastily responded, "He's of age!"
Fortunately, the protagonist was of age. Otherwise, he would absolutely refuse to take on this task. Mu Cai not only wouldn't target a minor, he would also prevent others from doing so.
Lin Xingchen shook his head, "Just recently of age, I suppose. Mr. Mu, you really move fast."
Mu Cai bravely added, "I also want to bring him into our company for internships. Brother Chen, do you think this is okay?"
The other party might not be very happy at this moment, but once Li Yu arrives, Lin Xingchen should immediately change his mind. After all, in the original plot, Chen was the second male lead. Before the persona added Li Yu on WeChat, the persona had always let the other party contact the protagonist indirectly to gather information.
Lin Xingchen abruptly turned around, lowering his gaze to the delicately handsome face of the person in front of him.
Bring him to the company for a romance?
Which of Mu Cai's former lovers had ever received such treatment?
An unnamed rage bubbled up in Lin Xingchen's heart, along with a hint of inexplicable dissatisfaction and jealousy.
He wondered what kind of person this one, who had caught the favorable eyes of second young master Mu, was.
