Chapter 125

Notes: Early release, thanks to Sakuradahl's support on Ko-Fi! ◟( ˃̶͈◡ ˂̶͈ )◞ This is also the last chapter for this arc.

When Mu Cai woke up in the morning, the first thing he saw was the beige curtain illuminated by sunlight.

Afterwards, he felt extremely comfortable. His entire body was enveloped by a soft quilt, with a warm figure tightly hugging him from behind. The feeling of skin contact, along with the soft fabric of the quilt, was so wonderful that he felt lazy and didn't want to move.

Of course, Mu Cai knew that if he moved, the comfort might be gone. After all, a certain part of him behind him was overused last night, still feeling a bit uncomfortable. His legs had also been forced to stay raised for a long time, so moving now would likely lead to a sore body.

So, Mu Cai didn't move easily, remaining in this comfortable position. He simply lowered his eyes to observe his current state.

A thick arm hugged Mu Cai's slender waist. It was completely different from his own thin arm, heavy and encircling his entire waist. The man's palm was placed on Mu Cai's abdomen, exuding heat, making that area feel warmer than the rest of his body.

He couldn't help but reach out to grab that hand which had done many naughty things last night. The man's hand was much warmer than Mu Cai's, and as his slightly cold fingertips touched it, he felt as if he had been burnt.

This hand was broad, with long and strong fingers. The back of the hand had prominent veins, and while the skin was not coarse, it certainly wasn't delicate. When Mu Cai touched it, his hand looked even more delicate and white. Looking at Pei Jingyun's hand, covered by his own and completely motionless, he couldn't resist playing with it, bending each finger, making all sorts of gestures.

Just as Mu Cai was engrossed in this little game, a voice sounded directly next to his ear. It was low and husky, laced with a hint of lingering sensuality. "Do you like my hand that much? It seems it did bring you quite a lot of pleasure last night."

Mu Cai was initially startled by the sudden voice. But as he comprehended the words, a faint blush spread across his fair face. Though Pei Jingyun's statement was shameless, it was indeed true. Although the other man had been somewhat rough initially the previous night, he was gentle afterwards. Mu Cai, remaining honest to himself, didn't want to argue senselessly, which left him uncontrollably embarrassingly flustered.

Pei Jingyun greedily looked at the ruby-red ears of Mu Cai, couldn't resist extending his tongue to give a light lick. The person in his arms, with skin as smooth as white satin, shivered slightly. Subsequently, he turned his face, and his eyes, bright like stars, caught a glimpse of Pei Jingyun.

Despite the apparent accusation in his gaze, Pei Jingyun could only see the slightly reddened corners of those eyes as an inviting hook, effortlessly reeling him in. Recalling his fervent demands from last night, how he'd held Mu Cai and carried him into the bathroom for cleanup, noticing the two bruised palm prints on his waist, and the bite marks extending from the ankle all the way to the base of the leg, he controlled the stirring desires within him. He just gently kissed that cream-white cheek and smiled, saying softly, "Good morning, my dear."

Even though Mu Cai had been half-drunk last night, somewhat hazy, he still retained some impression of what had occurred. The flame in Pei Jingyun's eyes had threatened to consume him completely, with his angry, whispered murmurings stimulating his nerves. Now, looking at Pei Jingyun's relaxed demeanor and smiling face, Mu Cai couldn't help but hesitate, "You... you're not angry anymore?"

This misunderstanding was indeed laughable, however, if not resolved, it might become a perpetual thorn in Pei Jingyun's heart before he regained his memory.

Of course, Mu Cai couldn't have imagined that his lover would harbor such a misunderstanding.

Indeed, alcohol often led to unfortunate incidents.

On hearing this, Pei Jingyun smiled. His eyes were dark, like a deep, gloomy well, seemingly ready to pull Mu Cai into its depths. "My Cai Cai has always loved me, what is there for me to be angry about?"

With that, he wrapped an arm around Mu Cai, his biceps rippling with strength. In an instant, Mu Cai found himself lifted and laid across Pei Jingyun's body. The man sat up, gazing down at him, bowing his head to plant a kiss on his forehead, his smile radiant. "I'm really very happy to have loved you for so long."

Listening to that, Mu Cai reached an understanding, "You've recovered your memory?"

Pei Jingyun smiled, "Yes. As I've said before, we'd meet again. I'd been in slumber, only awakening when the dream ends, regaining my consciousness, it's only been recently that I've been waking up earlier and earlier."

As he spoke, he encased the slender waist of the man in his arms with his own, staring directly into Mu Cai's eyes and professing, "Even so, I would still fall in love with you at first sight."

Mu Cai's heart stirred.

He felt happy and content, yet a trace of melancholy couldn't help but seep into his heart. He was about to speak when he observed Pei Jingyun's burning gaze and his smile, "In the next world, I will strive to regain my memory from the very beginning, to spare you an ounce of injustice, so you'll be mine from the start."

Pei Jingyun spoke, his arms tightening around him, foreheads pressed against each other, a voice soft and lingering, "This here is my dream. Whatever sceneries you wish to view, whatever you desire, whoever you want as company, feel free to tell me. Can we forever be together like this?"

Pei Jingyun had originally figured that Mu Cai, who loved him and was a straightforward person, would certainly agree. After all, they were in love and Mu Cai always came looking for him. There was no way he would not consent.

However, against expectations, Mu Cai remained silent.

Pei Jingyun's thick eyelashes trembled. His arm, wrapped around Mu Cai's slender waist, gripped tighter. His expression grew cold, his pupils constricting as he focused on his lover in his arms, "You don't want to? Why?"

There should be no obstacles between them. He embodied the will of this planet, this entire planet was his essence - nothing here dare hinder him.

Mu Cai - an outsider, might have intruded here, utilized his dreams, and had been cherished by him, but he was not to think of leaving!

Pei Jingyun's emotions welled up. Clinging tightly to the man in his arms, eyes unwilling to blink, as if he was afraid of him suddenly running away. Despite being aware that this was his dreamscape, and all the rules were set by him. Without his permission, his Mu Cai could never break free until he woke up.

The man in his arms had long lashes that twitched gently, and then he looked up.

That glance alone was enough to dispel the burgeoning melancholy in the heart of the planetary ruler. Mu Cai's eyes were clear, far more radiant than the countless galaxies he had seen in the universe over millions of years. Now, his reflection shattered in those eyes, sparkling, as if ready to shed tears.

"I am willing, but I cannot," the planetary ruler heard his lover say, his voice was like leaves scattering in the wind, "I come from another planet, I have my family there. If I stay with you, I would always be in a sleeping state, and it would cause them great concern and sadness."

Pei Jingyun had no family and could not comprehend the sensation of kinship. Listening to Mu Cai's words, jealousy rolled like a tumultuous sea in his heart, making him feel that his lover also had a fondness for someone else, and didn't solely love him.

This thought led him to ask, "Do you also truly love them? More than you love me?"

Mu Cai, who was initially saddened, found this question somewhat amusing, and yet it made him feel a little uncomfortable. He recalled that in every energy field, no matter who the person loved, relationships based on kinship and friendship seemed frail, either paramount or detached from the world.

Although he still didn't know the true identity of his lover and why he kept appearing in the energy fields, Mu Cai's lover couldn't understand him, nor share his pain. From this perspective, they might not be well-suited for each other.

Thinking of this, Mu Cai's eyes became slightly dimmer, yet patiently explained, "I love you, and I love them, but the love is different. For example, I would only do the things we did last night with you, but not with them."

As he said this, a little redness appeared on his cheeks, and his delicate hand subconsciously shrank back against Pei Jingyun's chest.

The planetary ruler immediately caught this detail, grabbed Mu Cai's hand, and kissed it. Although satisfied with Mu Cai's answer, he still couldn't accept it, "For them, you're going to leave me? Leave me forever? You awakened me from slumber and made me fall in love with you, but now you want to abandon me?"

When he first fell in love with Mu Cai, he tried over and over again to pull him into his dreamscape so he could never leave. Now he turned things around, accusing Mu Cai of abandoning him.

The unscrupulous ruler was trying to invert right and wrong, attempting to make Mu Cai feel guilty and shake his resolve. Mere concepts of family and home became blurred in Pei Jingyun's awakened state.

Pei Jingyun didn't understand all this; he only knew that Mu Cai was about to leave. So he instinctively wanted to keep his loved one by his side. Yet, he was unaware that the means he used might be scorned in human society.

However, despite Mu Cai's gentle personality and soft appearance, he was actually a resolute and unshakable person. He called out the reversal of right and wrong by his lover: "I didn't manipulate you into falling in love with me, so you can't blame everything on me."

The planetary ruler, unashamed of being called out, still looked at the other party with dark eyes, immediately apologized: "I'm sorry, I know I was wrong. But, do you really want to leave me? If you want to see them, I can let you go for a while, and then come back to me."

Saying this, he forced his head into Mu Cai's embrace, holding him tightly: "Don't leave me."

Pei Jingyun felt he had made a huge sacrifice, even allowing someone else to share Mu Cai with him. However, Mu Cai just patted his head gently, and laughed bitterly: "If I were alone, I would agree. But I'm not, so I can't promise."

The planetary ruler suddenly got anxious, he was about to lift his head when he heard Mu Cai continue: "If I come into your dreamscape, I have to be with you. As an ordinary human, being here would make me unable to eat on my own, my organs would fail, my body would collapse, and I would die prematurely."

"My family wouldn't ignore me if I was like this. They would worry about it, and might even come here to accompany me. A human's lifespan is only a hundred years, I don't want to make them sad because of this, even giving up their own career, hobbies, and family."

After Mu Cai finished speaking, he felt the arm around his waist tighten suddenly. The person originally buried in his arms suddenly lifted his head and stared at him, "You will get sick by entering my dreamscape? Even die?"

Although it wasn't directly related to entering the dreamscape, it could be said to be indirectly related. Mu Cai had already noticed his lover's different thinking pattern from humans, and did not intend to spend time on things that were difficult to explain, so he simply nodded, which was considered an acknowledgment.

The planetary ruler fell silent.

His life was extremely long, but that didn't mean he didn't understand the meaning of death. His body had once bloomed countless flowers, grown countless grasses, and been home to numerous aquatic creatures. They lived and died, died and lived, some species continued while others disappeared forever, never to exist again.

Pei Jingyun certainly didn't want Mu Cai to disappear. Although he wished for Mu Cai to stay by his side forever, his desire to protect, cherish, and be close to Mu Cai outweighed everything else.

If Mu Cai disappeared, everything he wanted would be meaningless!

Pei Jingyun was silent for a long time, his eyes dark. Finally, he said, "I understand."

With that, he released Mu Cai from his embrace.

Mu Cai knew that Pei Jingyun had understood and was now ready to let him go. At this time, he should have felt relieved, but Mu Cai's heart couldn't help but feel heavy.

Pei Jingyun had previously been unwilling to let Mu Cai go at any cost, but now, knowing that Mu Cai's life might be in danger, he was willing to set him free.

He loved Mu Cai deeply.

And Mu Cai loved him too.

Their love should have allowed them to walk hand in hand through life. What a pity; this was now doomed to be impossible.

Mu Cai forced a smile and said, "Alright, let me wake up. It's time for me to go."

The planetary ruler saw the glistening watery eyes of his lover and embraced Mu Cai again, gently kissing his forehead, "We will meet again."

But Mu Cai could not answer him anymore, for he had fallen into a deep sleep.

When Mu Cai woke up once again from the nourishment pod, he saw Old Huang's panicked face, "This planet is experiencing an extreme earthquake. We must ascend to the air immediately."

Without waiting for Mu Cai's response, Old Huang hurriedly ran out, "I'll inform the command center. You, hurry up and get dressed, and gather in the hall later. The earthquake came so suddenly!"

Mu Cai grabbed his clothes, his mind still dazed from waking up when the ground shook beneath his feet, nearly causing him to fall. The sounds of alarm and screams, along with the angry shouts of the staff trying to take charge, filled the air. All nourishment pods opened, forcing everyone, whether they were in the midst of a task or not, to wake up.

The scene was chaotic.

Mu Cai quickly put on his clothes and followed the crowd towards the hall.

Despite the ongoing earthquake on the planet, the interstellar battleship was very stable and wouldn't easily fall apart. Mu Cai wasn't worried about a sudden falling ceiling or something else happening.

However, when all the staff on the interstellar battleship had gathered in the hall to wait, everyone suddenly heard a deep voice resonating from all directions, like the echo of a bell in the mountains:

"I want to see Mu Cai."
