Chapter 17
Note: This is the final chapter for this arc. Enjoy reading and let me know what you think! ( ˶ˆᗜˆ˵ )
The college entrance examination arrived as scheduled.
At the beginning of June each year, senior high school students become the focus of social attention. Almost all media outlets report on the examination situation in various provinces during these days.
In Nancheng, Gu Juncheng was undeniably the center of attention amongst all senior students.
For his first mock examination, Gu Juncheng made a high-profile appearance as third in the city, and his fresh name was quite eye-catching.
On his second mock exam, Gu Juncheng finished second by a margin of just one point. However, it seemed like he sent out a message: becoming the city's top scorer was just a matter of time for him.
In his third mock exam, Gu Juncheng finally captured the city's top spot. Moreover, he confidently opened up a 10-point difference with the second place.
At Nancheng No.1 High School, everyone looked up to this high-achiever. Under his shining glory, Gu Minghao no longer dared to say he was doing well in his studies. People gradually started referring to him as "Gu Juncheng's younger brother".
This was an inspiring and glorious transformation.
"Here is a reporter from Nancheng TV. I am currently on site at Nancheng No.1 High School." A reporter arrived early in the morning at the examination location, meticulously reporting the situation. "As you can see, there are already many people present on the scene. In half an hour, the examinees will enter the examination hall..."
Major TV stations are broadcasting live from the entrance examination sites. Traffic police are working hard to maintain order, striving to clear the way for all examinees. People who usually commute to work are all avoiding the examination routes without any prior agreement.
Before entering the examination hall, Gu Shuo and the teachers cheered for him: "Don't panic. Treat it as a mock examination. As long as you take it seriously, you are sure to get good results..."
Gu Juncheng was the school's biggest hope. Many teachers who hadn't taught him also came to encourage him, which made him a little more nervous than before.
"Examinees, please enter the examination room..."
As the announcement sounded, Gu Juncheng bid farewell to his teachers. Without looking back, he entered the examination hall carrying the pen that changed the course of his destiny.
As long as he possessed the Pen God, he wouldn't get nervous.
Contrarily, Cheng Xuyuan, who was once again experiencing the college entrance examination situation, was very nervous. He felt like he had been transported back to his initial college entrance exam days when he couldn't even sleep due to anxiety.
A few minutes later, the bell for the start of the Chinese language paper rang. All sounds around faded away. At this moment, the examination hall seemed to be the quietest place in the world.
Only the rustle of scribbling pens and the soft flipping of pages were perceived.
The Gu Juncheng sitting in the examination room was no longer the underachiever he used to be. He skimmed through the entire paper at a glance. After judging the difficulty of the paper, he started solving questions while thinking about his essay's structure.
Gu Juncheng wrote rapidly showing exceptional energy. His speed of answering appeared to be the fastest in the entire examination hall, causing the girl beside him to break out into a cold sweat. However, when she recognized him as the top-scoring student of their batch, she let out a sigh of relief.
After all, he's the top student in the city, it's normal that he finishes faster than me...
After the language exam ended, Gu Juncheng was the first to walk out of the examination hall. Loads of media reporters swarmed towards him, asking about the essay question on the examination. Gu Juncheng answered with a smile. His handsome appearance drew lots of attention, and the cameraman couldn't help but give him several extra shots.
At noon, Gu Juncheng had a meal in the cafeteria offered by the school for free, then casually went to a local residence for a nap. He even played a mobile game, his leisurely demeanor not at all like that of a typical exam candidate.

The math exam began in the afternoon.
Before the exam, Gu Juncheng repeatedly emphasized to the Pen God not to help him in solving the questions. Otherwise, the national college entrance examination would lose its meaning. The Pen God agreed to his condition.
After receiving the exam paper, Gu Juncheng went over the entire paper and frowned slightly.
The math examination this year might be more difficult than previous years.
Gu Juncheng's judgment turned out to be very accurate. After the examination began, all the students' brows furrowed, and some were stuck starting from the third multiple-choice question. The following fill-in-the-blank questions and main problems were of types that had never been seen before.
Many students were flustered and unable to arrive at the answers despite sweating profusely from the calculations.
Even Gu Juncheng, who is familiar with various math problems, got stuck on a spatial geometry question.
An hour had already passed, and to achieve a high score in math, it was imperative to spend more energy on the final major question.
Cheng Xuyuan was even more anxious than Gu Juncheng, seeing the protagonist wasting a lot of time on a geometry problem, he was burning with impatience.
As Gu Juncheng was thinking hard, all of a sudden, the Pen God guided his hand to draw a straight auxiliary line on the geometrical figure, revealing the most hidden condition of the problem to him.
Gu Juncheng's eyes widened.
This was the first time that the Pen God powers to "cheat" for Gu Juncheng since the beginning of the third year of high school.
The next moment, Gu Juncheng frowned. He found such cheating behaviour distasteful. As a result, he put down his pen and changed to a gel pen to continue answering the questions.
For that three-dimensional geometry problem, he forced an answer using a coordinate system method, blatantly ignoring the auxiliary line that the Pen God had drawn.
Cheng Xuyuan anxiously said to the system, "This won't work. There are flaws in solving this problem with the coordinate method, and points will be deducted. By then, his math won't be his strength anymore..."
"Don't worry," the system comforted him, "Since the protagonist doesn't want to cheat, we should respect his wishes. Besides, with the difficulty of this year's math, the examiners won't be too strict."
Cheng Xuyuan watched with anxiety as Gu Juncheng completed the entire paper.
Just as Gu Juncheng wrote the answer for the final major question, the bell signifying the end of the math exam rang.
Sweat was faintly visible on Gu Juncheng's forehead. After wiping it off and tidying up his things, he went straight home. On the way, the teachers could see from the students' reactions that the mathematics exam was unusually difficult, so they didn't ask him any further questions.
On the roadside, a girl was sobbing in her parent's arms. Gu Juncheng glanced at her but remained silent.
When he got home, Gu Juncheng said to the Pen God, "Tomorrow, I will leave you at Chen Tianqi's place so that you don't interfere with my exam anymore."
Cheng Xuyuan complained pitifully, "I was just anxious for a moment, I was worried you wouldn't have enough time to write..."
"I will tell Chen Tianqi to take good care of the pen," Gu Juncheng said definitively.
The Pen God looked somewhat gloomy upon hearing this.
The next day, before the start of the integrated science exam, Gu Juncheng found Chen Tianqi, gave the pen to him, and said, "Keep my pen with you and take good care of it. I'll come to get it after the exam."
"Why should I keep it with me?" Chen Tianqi asked, confused.
"Just take good care of it, don't ask questions."
Gu Juncheng, without a doubt, pushed the pen into his hand.
In fact, he was a bit angry about what happened yesterday. He would have thought of that auxiliary line in a few more minutes, but the Pen God intervened and he had to forestall it.
Sighing, Gu Juncheng tried to calm himself down.
He couldn't blame the Pen God after all, it was thinking of him. In any case, he had to rely on his own strength to achieve results that would not disappoint the Pen God.
With this thought in mind, Gu Juncheng seemed to have unlimited power during the integrated science exam. He could quickly write every question, a world of difference compared to yesterday's mathematics exam.
The afternoon English exam wasn't difficult either. Gu Juncheng had a full hour left after completing the composition, which astonished the boys sitting nearby. It had to be said that sitting in the same exam room as Gu Juncheng put much more psychological pressure on others.
After the English exam, Gu Juncheng was stopped by a reporter as he walked out of the exam room.
"Young man, do you have any thoughts about this exam?" Gu Juncheng stood out too much in the crowd, leading the reporter to point the microphone at him immediately.
The surrounding reporters also gathered around. Gu Juncheng couldn't get away for a while, so he symbolically said a few words, mainly about how difficult the math was and how relatively simple the integrated science was.
"What are your expectations for your scores?"
"Expectations?" Gu Juncheng thought carefully. "I hope to get 690."
Everyone was shocked: "690?!"
"Looks like you're a top student, huh?"
"Have you thought about which university you want to apply for..."
Gu Juncheng politely answered a few questions with a smile, but eventually got impatient with the relentless questioning. He courteously said, "I have something else to attend to," and finally managed to break free from the crowd.
Dialing Chen Tianqi's number, Gu Juncheng asked, "Where are you now?"
"We have a class gathering after the exam, right? I'm on my way!" Chen Tianqi's voice sounded quite excited.
"I'll come to find you later to get the pen."
Chen Tianqi laughed and said, "You really treasure your pen, huh? There are so many cars on the road here, I won't chat with you for now..."
After hanging up, Gu Juncheng's thoughts had already turned to planning how to spend tonight. His steps became lighter, and the corners of his lips raised slightly.

The class gathering was held at a fancy hotel, which had been booked out by Nancheng No.1 High School for the evening.
Gu Juncheng took a taxi along with a few classmates and headed towards the hotel.
Halfway there, the taxi stopped. The driver sighed and said, "It seems there's a traffic jam ahead."
Gu Juncheng suddenly felt anxious in his heart, wanting to see the Pen God as soon as possible.
Suddenly, a siren sounded outside the car window. The driver took a look outside and said, "Looks like there's been a car accident up ahead."
A sense of foreboding "thumped" in Gu Juncheng's heart, fleeting across his mind, but he immediately dismissed the thought.
Cheng Xuyuan was the Pen God, after all...
Despite his mindset, he couldn't help but dial Chen Tianqi's WeChat number. The call lingered for a while, yet no one picked up.
A frown formed on Gu Juncheng's face. Suddenly, he coldly told the driver, "Open the door, I need to get out."
"There are too many cars here, you can't get out now..."
His classmates looked at him in puzzled bewilderment, failing to understand why his demeanor had changed abruptly.
Gu Juncheng insisted on getting out. The driver, at a loss, had to open the car door for him. Once on the street, Gu Juncheng strode through the densely packed vehicles with difficulty.
Until he saw the wrecked cars, and a shaken Chen Tianqi nearby.
The accident occurred just after Chen Tianqi sent a message to Gu Juncheng. He was travelling alone to the hotel by taxi. He had finished his English exam ten minutes ahead of time, as it was easy for him. His early finish was solely to assist their teacher with venue setup at the hotel earlier.
However, as the taxi sped through an intersection, a van suddenly barrelled from the side, crashing aggressively into the cab.
In a flash, Chen Tianqi heard a loud bang followed by a severe impact.
Just when he thought he was undoubtedly going to die, his backpack suddenly radiated an intense light. By the time he reacted, a slender young man was shielding him— absorbing all the forces of the crash.
As Chen Tianqi was taken aback, the young man's body astonishingly began to turn transparent!
He gazed at the seemingly familiar face, asking in bewilderment, "Who are you?"
The young man looked pained. With his breath fading, he replied, "Tell Gu Juncheng... I'm sorry. I broke my promise..."
"But who are you?!"
Under Chen Tianqi's panic-stricken gaze, the young man vanished into thin air. After that, a shattered pen fell at Chen Tianqi's feet— the very one Gu Juncheng had entrusted to him.
As the traffic police were taking notes at the scene, Gu Jun pushed through the crowd, anxiously asking Chen Tianqi, "Where's my pen?"
Chen Tianqi kept his mouth agape for a long time, unable to articulate a word. The day's happenings were beyond his comprehension.
After a while, Chen Tianqi unclenched his hand.
Pieces of the pen, marked with dried up ink, lay in his palm.
Dumbfounded, Gu Juncheng stared at his open hand, rendered speechless.
After a long while, Gu Juncheng murmured to himself, "No, he wouldn't be in trouble... He is a god after all..."
"That young man asked me to tell you…" Chen Tianqi seemed to grasp the situation, guilt filling his eyes, "He said, he is sorry, he broke his promise."
The brutal words hit Gu Juncheng like a sharp knife, making him pale.
Confused, the traffic police asked, "Which young man? Was there someone else in the car?"
Chen Tianqi just shook his head blankly. He had thought the young man could be a demon manifested from the pen. But the moment he came forth to save him, he seemed celestial.
At that very moment, Cheng Xuyuan was suspended in mid-air. He watched Gu Juncheng's devastated figure, his heart ached.
"Why did it end prematurely? Wasn't it supposed to be a year?" Cheng Xuyuan complained to the system.
The system answered, "It's the butterfly effect. If it weren't for you, Gu Juncheng wouldn't have taken notes, Chen Tianqi wouldn't have drastically improved his results by using his notes, therefore he wouldn't have finished his exam early, and certainly wouldn't have encountered a car accident..."
"But I am a god, how could I die?"
"Life for a life," the system calmly explained, "But don't worry, your mission is successfully accomplished. You can move on to the next world without worry."
Cheng Xuyuan watched Gu Juncheng growing more and more distant, seemingly catching sight of tear stains on his face. However, his body was out of control, continuously ascending in mid-air.
"He must be so devastated to leave suddenly like this…"
Murmuring to himself, Cheng Xuyuan experienced an unprecedented sadness.
"You need to get used to it." The system's mechanical voice bore no emotion, "Or, to put it another way, from the beginning, you should have been prepared not to have feelings for anyone in these worlds."
Cheng Xuyuan wanted to say something more, but the scene before him suddenly became illusory. In the blink of an eye, he was back in the darkness.
The system's voice echoed once more.
"Mission 'Pen God'' accomplished successfully. Permanent skill obtained: a matching knowledge database for each world. After a brief rest, the external plug-in delivery system will move on to the next stop. Please, Plug-in No. 10287, prepare yourself psychologically…"
Author's Note:
Well, this marks the temporary end of the 'Pen God' world. We might return to this in the future (if you really love Gu Juncheng).
Thank You!!! I can't wait for the next update!!!! :)
